CAN I HAVE A MATCHES' BOX, A BLUE PEN AND AN ASSAULT RIFLE, PLEASE?
Buy a gun in USA is easier than eating a hamburger. For each McDonald's, there are five legal gun stores.
So easy is buying a firearm in USA: you only have to be 21, present driver's license, and complete a form. This is because each person have the right to buy, carry and use a firearm, is not surprising that a country with 308 million people, has 270 million arms in civils hands. The statistics say a 40% of households have, at least, a firearm.
But, what's the real problem of the free trade arms?
It's as simple as that anyone with a minimal mental disorder may buy arms of any kind. In adition, it's not so hard to find them, because in Walt-Mart supermarket chains, you can buy an assault rifle. Although you can't buy it online, you can obtain it as it were a film.
And talking of films, do you know how much the Aurora cinema's killer spent down in the weapons he used?
Without questions o waiting period, James Holmes, who killed to 12 people and hurt to 59 in a cinema's room, bought two pistols, a shotgun, an assault rifle and munition. In total, he spents 3 thousand 363 dolars.
But it hasn't been the only massacre in USA, and neither the worst. Only this year, there have been six shootings with 110 deaths and injuries. Click here to go to a presentation, about the worst massacres recently occurred.
Is USA the only countrie in wich there is free trade of arms?
No. Although it is the country where there are more killings, it is not the only one in which the bought of arms is free, although it is one of the countries wich has more flexible laws:
- Canada, for example, has arms laws as flexible as USA, but there is an intense debate about its control.
- In Argentina, you can buy arms freely if, even five years, you upgrade certain requirements. In exchange, you can't carry a gun unless you obtained a special permission.
- Colombia allows having arms after pass by physical and psycological controls.
Unlike them:
- South Korea sanctions with death penalty to anyone who has or uses firearms.
- The gun laws in Mexico are among the most strict in the world, comparable in many aspects to the laws in UK, but with more severe penalties.
- In Spain, the law doesn't allow use or possession of guns that isn't related to the sport shooting or hunting. Moreover, after passing the appropriate aptitude tests, a person only can obtain the licenses for hunting, sport and olympic shooting.
Is possible a law dating 1791 still remains valid? Like you see. The Second Constitutional Amendment, the law which regulates control and use of weapons in US was estabilished in that year.
"It's time for action”, Obama said after the recent events in
Connecticut which killed 27 people, 20 of them children. U.S. President proposes send proposals to Congress to make
stricter gun laws to stop the violence.
This is a controversy that never dies in the United States. The Constitution in its Second Amendment, establishes that right. Eight of ten Americans are in favor of arms possession. The Supreme Court has never forbidden having weapons. With Obama has not adopted any law against today.

And here's the questions:
1. Have you had in your hands once a weapon?
2. What do you think about the free sale of arms?
3. Why had red hair the author of the massacre of the "Batman" movie premiere?
4. What was the name the teacher who saved 16 children in the last shooting in Connecticut last December?

4) Her name is Victoria Soto

ReplyDeleteInma your post is about a sad topic (in my opinion) but sometimes the saddest things are those that are the most important but also those that we hardly ever put attencion to them. Congratulations Inma!

BYE CLASS :)
Hi Inma! Hi class!
ReplyDeleteAs Blanca said, your entry is a bit sad, but anyway it’s a good one. With it, we could learn that everybody doesn’t think like us and there are a lot of cultures. We have told sometimes in class this, and we have talked about the role of weapons in USA. You have reflected it very well, and in fact, you have mentioned it.
Ans. 1| No, I haven't; but I don't need it. I can live without weapons.
Ans. 2| Ridiculous, dangerous; and a backwardness for the global power, USA. Everybody, even a crazy person (as Javi said) can kill other person… I suppose that, at least, there will be a type of exams or something like that.
Ans. 3| Because this colour represent the enemy of Batman, the Joker.
Ans. 4| Her name is Victoria Soto.
Bye class! Bye Inma!

1-. No, I haven´t.

3-. Because this colour represented the enemy of Batman.
4-. Victoria Soto.
